Prior to mandatory government legislation, a number of building materials contained lead which has been proven hazardous to human health, especially in children. Petroleum-based paints often contain high concentrations of lead. Lead can also be found in water, soil, dust, batteries, industrial paints, soldering, radiator repair and metal reclaiming. The Nova Scotia Government guideline, "Working With Lead Containing Materials" includes such topics as health affects, evaluating exposure, controlling lead exposure, personal protection equipment, criteria for removal and personal hygiene. With the introduction of lead guidelines, employees and employers are now more aware of the potential danger inherent in working with materials containing lead. The guidelines state that occupational lead levels should be monitored and regulated for the protection of employees and proper respiratory protection must be worn during lead exposure.
ALL-TECH Environmental Services can assess and audit lead containing paint, dust, water and soil which may be observed in or around buildings and provide recommendations as to the extent and condition of lead containing materials. If required, we can initiate a lead assessment in your facility and manage an abatement project.
